How the "God's Website" thing got started.

Originally this website was called "Yesod HaShem" - Hebrew for "The Foundation for The Name."

But since its beginning, in March of 1996, I've always had "Yhwh.com" as the web address.

Sometime in early 1997 I got an email from a group of Baptist Seminary students.  I didn't keep the original email, but here's the gist of it:

WOW!  We can't believe you are actually here.  We were sitting around our dorm room tonight saying, "Well, just about everybody has a website.  I wonder if God does?"  So, we tried "God.com", but nothing.  So somebody said, "What's God's Name?"  "Yeah, that's right!  Try Yhwh.com!"  And here you are!  We can't believe it!  So who are you guys....?

And that's how it started.  Just as simple as that.  After that I edited the site, placing those scandalous words at the top of a few pages.  And, yes, the phrase is scandalous.  Some people never read past those words.  (So why do I leave it there?  Folks, we live in a media-saturated world.  As Saint Paul said, he used all means available to do his ministry.  Little things like "God's Website" are just my way of tickling your mind, creating interest (and/or controversy), to help this ministry to generate some excitement / interest / publicity.)

And even to this day, when someone asks "So what do you do?" I say, "I host God's Website on the Internet."  As you can well imagine, that's quite a way to start a conversation.   For the most part, I'd get a more positive response if I said "I'm a mass murderer just released on parole."  But I am very, very honored and proud of what The Church of Yahweh has done and what it has become.

So, "Disneyland.com" is the website for Disneyland...Pepsi.com is the website for Pepsi, and so on.  The God of the universe has a name, that Name is YHWH, and that means, by common use of the language, Yhwh.com is, indeed, "God's Website."  And from that we decided to register GodsWebsite.com, too.

But what that actually means is, I sit here typing on my computer while the cats wrestle on the rug.  I share my life, thoughts & feelings in the hope that something, somehow, will touch you & help your life.

"Do you think you have a direct connection to God, and He dictates what you're supposed to type?"  No, of course not.  There's times that I do wish it was so, but it's not.

"Does that mean that no one can go to heaven unless they go to your website?"  No, of course not.

"Does that mean that this is the only website that has the truth?"  No, of course not.

"Does that mean that everything written here is 100% perfectly true?"  No, of course not.  I present the truth as I know it.  But I never speak (or never mean to) with the authority of "Thus Says The Lord!"  I try, as clearly as I can, to encourage you to make up your own minds:

"On this Website you will find many documents. They cover all essential aspects of religion. Do not accept or believe any of it, without carefully testing and examining its truth. Believing what someone else tells you, simply because you think they have some authority, is one of the silliest things you can do."

I study, live, think, pray & meditate on God, the Universe, and my place in the scheme of things.  

I write about those contemplations & experiences.  

Some folks read it.  

Some like what I write, some hate it.

Some send emails, most don't.

That's just how it is.
